  Identifying a hobby 1  

Overview:

Students understand course requirements, structure and goals. Students understand the criteria for choosing hobbies.

Materials/Steps

Introduction to hobbies

Survey of how students use their free time, with sharing

Finding lists of hobbies

Use a random number generator (e.g. https://www.mathgoodies.com/calculators/random_no_custom) to pick a hobby from the notsoboringlife list or the less usual hobbies list. Students in pairs find information on their 2 randomly generated hobbies

Criteria for choosing hobbies

(students check whether the hobbies match the criteria)

Identify 3 hobbies and fill in a form for how the hobbies fit the criteria

Run through course outline and evaluation

Homework: students fill in the ‘My Hobby’ form
